Six tips for creating a great video profile

Hyrd gives you a chance to showcase your personality, intelligence, and creativity, directly to companies you wish to work with. It’s an opportunity to communicate why you would be an excellent choice for them.

1.     Go to 'Account Settings' and click on 'Videos' to start recording

Record your video profile from your computer or phone. You can also upload it via Youtube.

2.     Ensure your recording equipment is working well

Companies want to see you and hear what you have to say. Choose a well-lit, clean background and that you avoid any background noise. Make sure the camera is pointing towards you before you start recording and remember to dress well (as if you are going to a face-to-face interview)!

3.     Plan and practice

Avoid long pauses and fillers such as "umms", ''uuhs'', and "likes" by planning and practising what you will say before you record your video. Remember that you have one minute so focus on keeping it relevant, to the point and impactful. 

4.     Don't just recite your resume

Share experiences or qualities about yourself with relevance to the type of job you are looking for. For example, one successful applicant listed ' member of the University basket-ball team' in their resume's extracurricular section. Her video mentioned this as well and showed that she’s an energetic team player, and is able to function well in a group. The hiring manager loved it, and she has now been placed through Hyrd.

5.     Watch your video again

Watch your video and get some feedback from others to help you improve. 

6.    Upload your video

Click on Account Settings and select Videos (underlined in red) to upload.
